Research

Clinical and pre-clinical research is one of the key initiatives of the Society. SOLAS members -- representing the leaders in the field of lateral access surgery -- will drive the direction, implementation, and publication of all XLIF-related research through participation in Application Committees (Degenerative, Deformity, Motion).

Research projects completed to date, those still on-going, and those planned include anatomic and biomechanical studies, retrospective clinical chart reviews (both single-center and multi-center), prospective non-randomized, and prospective randomized clinical trials. Topics of interest generally include peri- and post-operative minimally invasive benefits, long-term clinical and radiographic evaluations, comparisons between techniques, comparisons among indications, etc.

Members collaborate on projects around each study topic, at respective Committee meetings, and at the SOLAS Research Meeting, held annually in San Diego.
