SOLAS Overview

Mission

SOLAS GroupThe Society of Lateral Access Surgery (SOLAS) was created by and is supported with funding from NuVasive®, Inc. The intent of SOLAS is to foster research, training initiatives, and peer-to-peer communication that help define and advance the science and art of lateral access surgery and particularly, the XLIF® technique.

SOLAS will shape the future of lateral access spine surgery through collaboration among members, sharing of ideas, and the promotion of new techniques that benefit patient, physician, and hospital.

Membership Criteria

Surgeons with an interest in participating in SOLAS-related communication, research, and training initiatives and who have accumulated XLIF® surgical experience of at least 10 cases, and/or a history of professional leadership, scholarship, and research involvement are invited to apply for membership by completing the online registration form: Become a Member

Surgeon Education

All of NuVasive's Maximum Access Surgery (MAS®) training is conducted under the umbrella of SOLAS. Proctorship will be defined, regulated, and iterated through the SOLAS Surgeon Education Committee. Read More »

Invitation to Annual Meeting

Each year, SOLAS hosts an Annual Research Meeting, providing members with the opportunity to network with their peers and learn about the latest advances in lateral access surgery. The meeting will be held in San Diego in April each year and will include presentations and discussions led by SOLAS faculty. Learn More »

SOLAS Maximum Access Membership ($250.00 fee*)

Patient Education

Available exclusively to SOLAS Members with Maximum Access, the goal of the Customized Patient Education Program is to provide physicians with education materials that are written and designed to convey information about back surgery in a patient-friendly way.
